Energy Experience

The DKRW team has the discipline and focus that can capitalize on emerging trends to create value for our customers and investors. The company was formed in 2002 with a foundation of experience that included over $3 billion in project development, finance and construction of large energy projects.

Our past initiatives range across a variety of energy and fuels such as wind, combined cycle, co-generation, pulverized coal, hydrogen fuel cells, biomass, hydropower and solar power. Our skill set also includes expertise in negotiations, permitting, engineering, procurement, construction, operations, maintenance, power sales and commercial acquisitions.

One of the notable projects in which we have been involved and that we still share development interest in is the Sweetwater Wind Project in Texas. Initially co-developed with GE Wind Energy, Sweetwater was the first significant wind project in Texas and is currently the second largest wind project in the U.S. and the world. Total project cost at Sweetwater is approaching $1 billion and includes over 500 MW. Other wind projects were developed during the partners’ tenure at Enron Wind, subsequently sold to GE Wind.

Overseas, our experience includes the Teesside Power Project in the United Kingdom. One of the largest privately owned power stations in Europe, Teesside represented an investment over $1 billion and includes a complex of 2,000 MW of combined cycle power generation, steam, North Sea gas fields North Sea gas fields and pipeline, and a gas liquids facility. In 1991, Teesside was recognized with Corporate Finance Magazine’s Project Finance Deal of the Year, Euro Money Magazine’s Project Finance Deal of the Year, and International Financing Review Magazine’s Syndicated Loan of the Year.

Other international experience ranges from Canada, Mexico, Asia, Croatia, Poland and to Germany. Our involvement in Mexico continues with the $1 billion project we are co-developing with El Paso Energy, the Sonora Pacific Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal in Puerto Libertad. And, we’ve been involved intimately in energy projects in every region of the U.S.

Debate abounds as to when the world will reach “Hubbert’s Peak,” the point in time when maximum global petroleum production will be reached. After this point, production will be in terminal decline. The strides that have been made in exploration and production technology as well as new energy efficiencies, have pushed the probable time for Hubbert’s Peak out somewhat, but the fact that we will reach it is inevitable. We must move beyond conceptual discussion and bring new energy to the market. The collective experience at DKRW and the world-class staff we have to develop, engineer, operate and maintain energy projects can help move us past Hubberts Peak.
